The Peruvian Amazonas
June 5, 2024
The Peruvian Amazonas. A wildly different place. Palm trees, dense green forests, waterfalls, and rice fields dominate the scenery. It is tranquil. And there is a good reason for it. Tropical heat! It's becoming a theme.
We bagged a dripping but necessary 120K day to get through a sweltering basin. Struggling to keep our body temperatures and hydration levels in check, we got some funny looks from bystanders. It must have been quite the sight. Two tan lined, red glowing, and wet Dutchies pedalling away into the heat of the day. I suppose we are a bit crazy. But we figured it to be better to fry for one day, long and deep, than to be dragging along like a snail for ages. A river crossing on a fun little ferry, Aimée her stomach turning around, and a lot of fresh fruit and jugos, completed an intense, beautiful and delicious last stretch in our beloved Peru. Ready for the next chapter. We entered Ecuador!
