Entering Patagonia

December 22, 2023

We entered the Patagonia region! After weeks of desert, finally the landscape is changing again. More green, more snowy mountains, more water... We feel energized.

The population density is decreasing and big cities are a thing of the past. Going south now means more of nothing but wilderness. And yet, the number of interactions with people on the road, and the amount of cyclists we meet along the way has never been greater. A young herder from the Italian Alps and an awesome guy from Alabama, both joined us for some time on our way south. Just to name a few. So nice to share stories and to cycle alongside like-minded folks all on their own journeys. Often we get pulled from the road too. Just to have a chat, or to share a Coca-Cola with a bewildered Bolivian man who had been dragging his fuming car across the continent. Everyone is so open. So friendly. It is heart-warming.

In a few days we will start our next little adventure, crossing the Andes westward into Chile. So it will be Christmas in a tent. Looking forward to it :)

Merry Christmas everyone!

Route: Mendoza - Pareditas - Malargüe - Bardas Blancas - Barrancas - Chos Malal - Las Lajas
