Family time in Patagonia

April 4, 2024

After spending a few days in Ushuaia we moved up to Punta Arenas. From there we picked up a car for our final trip in Patagonia. Traveling this fast after months of pedaling slowly felt odd to say the least. But we can't lie, it was pretty relaxing too :) And we had some amazing sights left to explore, making for a fantastic road trip!

First Torres del Paine. A famous park in Chile featuring the characteristic Paine massif, formed by magma induced uplifting of the earths crust, which through glacial erosion is sculpted into the shapes we see today. Absolutely stunning. Then our return to the Mount Fitz Roy town El Chaltén in Argentina. This time in the beginning of fall. The colors were incredible. Perito Moreno was last on the list. One of the many glaciers flowing out from the southern Patagonia ice field. Completely flabbergasted, we witnessed big chunks of ice calving from the edges of the immense glacier into lake Argentino. Spectacular!

And the best part, we got to enjoy these amazing places together with family. It was heart-warming. And the looks in the eyes of our nephew and niece... priceless. Who knew Patagonia could offer so much fun too. We've never played tag and hide & seek on playgrounds this beautiful :)

Now we are ready for part two. In a few days, we will fly back to Peru, where we started 9 months ago. We will make our way to the mountain village Huaraz. But this time, instead of heading south, we go north to finish what we started. Completing our cycling journey through the Andes, the longest continental mountain range in the world, across its entire length. All the way to the northern shores of Colombia. It's going to be one heck of a ride!
